Tobias Frere-Jones
Tobias Frere-Jones, half of company Hoefler & Frere-Jones, was approached by GQ Magazine with a request to design a sans-serif typeface with a geometric structure that felt fresh and masculine. Frere-Jones explored the vernacular letting and signage of New York and created Gotham. This typeface is based on all-uppercase signage with a number of weights ranging from thin to black.
Matthew Carter
Born in London in 1937, Carter is currently a type designer in the United States. Carter worked as a freelancer as well as typographic advisor. In 1981 he created Bitstream Inc. with his colleague Mike Parer that focused on digital type. SOme of his more well known typefaces include Georgia and Verdana.
Erik Spiekermann
First designed the typeface, Meta, and later went on to become the directer of a type company, Fontshop, which he created.
Christian Schwartz
Schwartz was born in 1977 and studied Communication Design and Carnegie Mellon University. His first typeface was released by FonHaus in 1992 when Schwartz was only years old He has designed typefaces for companies such as Volkswagen, Esquire Magazine, and The Guardian Newspaper. He has designed over 25 different typefaces, including Farnha, Graphik, and Neutraface.
Jesse Ragan
After becoming interested in typography in high school, Ragan attended RISD and realized he would be interested in typography as a career. He has been a working typographer for both the Hoefler & Frere-Jones foundry and Joshua Darden Studio. Some of his more popular typefaces include Archer and Gotham (both made with Tabias Fere-Jones and Jonathan Hoefler.

Paul Renner (1878-1956)
Born in Germany, Renner lived from 1878-1956. Renner is well known for creating on of the most influential geometric typefaces known as Futura. Even though Renner was not directly involved in the Bauhaus movement, the modern design element in Futura made it a good representative of the movement. Futura remains an extremely popular and influential typeface that can be found in several variations.
William Caslon I (1692 - 1766)
In 1722 William Caslon I designed Caslon Old Style, the first of the Caslon series of typefaces. Over the years he released variations of Caslon Old Style which were used throughout Britain and the U.S. Some of the first copies of the United States Declaration of Independence were printed in Caslon, as Benjamin Franklin was an admirer of the typeface.
Bruce Rogers (1870-1957)
Rogers was schooled as both a painter and illustrator. He was famous for being one of the designers for bibliophile books. He designed the typeface Centaur. He first drew it out in ink and the calligraphic influence can be seen.
Stanley Morison (189-1967)
Original creator of the Times New Roman and co-founder of the Fleuron Societ, where he published and edited The Fleuron, a journal of typography.
Max Miedinger (1910 – 1980)
In 1957 Max Miedinger created the typeface Berthold Akzidenz Grotesk, increasingly popular for its time. A few years later the typeface was redrawn to work with the Linotype machine and it became known as Helvetica (Latin for the word Swiss). The typefacebecame one of the most used typefaces throughout the 60's and 70's and is still a top choice for designers today.

TACO LOVE
so for our second type exploration, jon and i got down and dirty with some cigs. i really like the jaggedness of it as well as how each cigarette is a different size, color, etc.
i think itd be pretty cool to also stand them up and spell them with the butts end up. sooo possibly next time, maybe, hopefully
